Ramachandra Rao IGP
Additional Director-General of Police Raghavendra Auradkar, who is probing into the alleged police atrocities in Yamanur village and Navalgund during the Mahadayi protests recently, visited these places on Friday.
He was accompanied by Inspector-General of Police (Northern Range) Ramchandra Rao and Superintendent of Police of Dharwad, Dharmender Kumar Meena. Mr. Auradkar first visited places in Navalgund where protests were staged.
He first visited the JMFC court and assessed the extent of damage.
Mr. Auradkar went to the town municipal council office, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. office, the bus station and other places where public property was damaged during the protest. At the court, some advocates briefed the ADGP about the incident and the damage caused.
He visited Yamanur village and heard the grievances of those affected by the alleged police action. Mr. Auradkar also heard the pleas of residents, whose family members have now been lodged in different jails.
Verification
Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Auradkar said that 24 cases had been registered by the police and they were being verified.
“We will verify them carefully and submit a report to the government. It will be an impartial inquiry,” he said.
On the withdrawal of cases against the protesters, Mr. Auradkar said that the State government would take a decision on it.
